Kiteboarding lines are the ropes that attach the rider’s harness and control bar to the actual kitesurfing kite. These lines are incredibly important to the control and safety of the kite and have to be strong and stable. One of the best materials used for lines is spectra which is incredibly rigid and resists stretching more than other materials.
Kiteboarding lines should also float on the water to make water re-launches much easier. The rigidity of the line allows for consistent control of the kite and provides good feedback to the kiteboarder. A flexible line that can stretch is not recommended because it can rocket the rider into the air or across the water unexpectedly.
Kiteboading lines are typically sold in 20 meter lengths, though custom lengths are available to suit a riders preference. Keeping the lines clean and clear of sand and salt can extend their life greatly making the rig last longer and provides a greater amount of safety. It is also recommended to keep them out of the sun when possible, UV rays can quickly damage lines which leads to failures and breakages that can be disastrous and very dangerous.
